Kakaako

Kakaako, Hawaii is the name given to a commercial and retail district on Honolulu. The district is located along the southern shores of O’ahu betwen Ala Moana, Waikiki, downtown Honolulu and Honolulu Harbor. There are two civic centers that call Kakaako home, the Neal S. Blaisdell Center and the Victoria Ward Center. It is also home to the John A. Burns Medical School.

In it’s early history the area was home to Hawaiian Royalty and a lively fishing and boating area. Agriculture was a mainstay in the area in the form of terraced farmlands. The area also has small ancient burial sites scattered throughout which are often found during efforts to develop the area. In more recent years Kaka’ako has been building and developing more residential areas helping to attract new residents and increase the population in the area.
